Safeguarding policy
The Winn Family Association (WFA), proudly operating and managing the Winn Family League, is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare, safety, wellbeing, and protection of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults involved in our organisation. Safeguarding is one of the most important responsibilities within the Winn Family Association, and we are dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, supportive, and inclusive environment for everyone who participates in league activities, events, programmes, competitions, and online spaces.
The WFA believes that every individual has the right to feel safe, protected, valued, and respected regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, identity, or personal circumstances. We operate with zero tolerance toward abuse, neglect, exploitation, bullying, harassment, discrimination, or any behaviour that places another person at risk of harm.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Every member, volunteer, organiser, coach, official, parent, guardian, supporter, and participant has an important role in helping maintain a safe and positive environment throughout the Winn Family League.

The WFA aims to ensure that every participant can enjoy league activities free from fear, abuse, intimidation, neglect, or exploitation.
Who this policy applies to
This safeguarding policy applies to everyone involved with the Winn Family Association and the Winn Family League, including:
- Players and participants
- Match officials and referees
- Volunteers and organisers
- Coaches and team staff
- Parents and guardians
- Spectators and supporters
- League representatives
- Online community members
All individuals are expected to follow safeguarding standards and contribute to maintaining safe environments.
What safeguarding means
Safeguarding involves protecting individuals from abuse, harm, neglect, exploitation, discrimination, bullying, harassment, and unsafe behaviour. It also involves promoting physical safety, emotional wellbeing, mental health, dignity, and respect. Safeguarding concerns may include:
- Physical abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Neglect
- Bullying or cyberbullying
- Harassment or intimidation
- Grooming or exploitation
- Discrimination or hate-related abuse
- Unsafe environments or practices
- Inappropriate communication with children or vulnerable individuals
The WFA recognises that safeguarding concerns can occur both in person and online.
Creating a safe environment
The Winn Family Association is committed to maintaining environments where individuals feel safe, respected, and supported. We aim to:
- Promote positive behaviour and inclusion
- Encourage respectful communication
- Maintain clear codes of conduct
- Ensure appropriate supervision during activities
- Reduce unnecessary risks where possible
- Respond quickly to safety concerns
- Encourage openness and accountability
Everyone involved in the WFA should help create a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up about concerns.
Responsibilities of WFA members and representatives
All individuals connected to the Winn Family Association are expected to:
- Treat others with dignity and respect
- Follow safeguarding procedures and policies
- Report concerns immediately
- Maintain appropriate boundaries
- Avoid inappropriate behaviour or communication
- Help protect children and vulnerable individuals
- Promote safe and positive environments
- Act responsibly both in person and online
No member should ignore safeguarding concerns or assume someone else will deal with them.
Child protection
Protecting children and young people is a central priority within the Winn Family Association. Children should always be able to participate safely, confidently, and without fear of abuse or harm. Adults involved in WFA activities must:
- Behave responsibly around children
- Avoid inappropriate language or conduct
- Never exploit positions of trust
- Respect safeguarding procedures
- Promote safe and supportive participation
- Act immediately if concerns arise
The WFA expects all adults to act as positive role models for younger members.
Online safety
The Winn Family League recognises the importance of digital safety and responsible online behaviour. Participants must not:
- Send abusive or inappropriate messages
- Share harmful or offensive content
- Engage in online bullying or harassment
- Exploit or manipulate vulnerable individuals online
- Share private or sensitive information irresponsibly
The WFA encourages safe online communication and responsible use of social media, messaging services, and league platforms.
Reporting safeguarding concerns
The Winn Family Association encourages all safeguarding concerns to be reported immediately. Concerns may involve:
- Abuse or neglect
- Bullying or harassment
- Unsafe behaviour
- Inappropriate communication
- Discrimination or hate-related abuse
- Threats or intimidation
- Concerns involving children or vulnerable adults
All concerns will be treated seriously and handled as appropriately, fairly, and confidentially as possible. Where necessary, concerns may be referred to safeguarding authorities, emergency services, or relevant agencies to protect individuals from harm.
Confidentiality and respect
Safeguarding concerns should be handled carefully, professionally, and respectfully. Information should only be shared with appropriate individuals responsible for managing safeguarding matters. The WFA aims to:
- Protect privacy wherever possible
- Avoid unnecessary disclosure of sensitive information
- Support individuals involved in safeguarding concerns
- Maintain fairness and professionalism during investigations
The safety and wellbeing of individuals will always remain the priority.
Behaviour not tolerated by the WFA
The Winn Family Association has zero tolerance toward:
- Abuse or violence
- Bullying or harassment
- Grooming or exploitation
- Racism or discrimination
- Sexual misconduct
- Threatening behaviour
- Neglect or unsafe conduct
- Abuse of power or authority
- Online abuse connected to league activities
Any individual involved in behaviour that places others at risk may face disciplinary action, suspension, removal from activities, permanent bans, or referral to relevant authorities.
Safeguarding and community responsibility
Safeguarding is strongest when everyone works together. The Winn Family Association encourages all members to promote kindness, awareness, respect, responsibility, and support throughout the community. We believe safe environments are built through:

Every member of the WFA has a role in protecting the wellbeing of others.
